Before you start: a five-minute project check

  1. Choose a specific use: What will you make, and where will it go?
  2. Confirm the plan: Does it show actual dimensions, a cut list and clear assembly steps?
  3. Match your tools: Can you perform every operation safely with your current setup?
  4. Price the build: Include wood, hardware, finish, waste and any tools you still need.
  5. Start small: Practice unfamiliar techniques on scrap and dry-fit before fastening.

How we approach woodworking advice

We focus on useful, understandable guidance rather than promising perfect results or promoting the largest plan bundle. A good free plan can be better than a paid one. We explain where more information is needed and do not claim to have tested products we have not independently evaluated.

Tool use carries risks. Follow manufacturer instructions and seek hands-on guidance for unfamiliar operations. The guides on this site are educational and do not replace project-specific safety instructions.

Affiliate transparency: Some pages contain clearly identified affiliate links. We may receive a commission if you purchase through them, at no additional cost to you. Our project guides do not require a purchase.
